TEXAS

Well, here we go! After reading and admiring my cousin's blog page for a few months now, I have decided to start up my own. I have a "My Space" account, but find that not many people over the age of 15 read it! So, onward and upward. Mike and I just returned from a one week marathon trip to Texas and Nevada. We drove to Canyon Lake, Texas in 2 days, stopping overnight in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Once in Canyon Lake, we stayed with my brother's kids for 3 days. While there, we rented a ski boat on the lake, and floated down the Guadalupe River in tubes. We visited the Natural Bridge in New Braunfels, and toured the caverns below it.

Fourth of July in Texas was Mike's primary reason for visiting, and he blew up about $100 worth of TREMENDOUS legal fireworks! He LOVES fireworks, and they are pretty much illegal in CA due to the extremely dry conditions we usually have in the summer. He bought artillery shells, firecrackers, fountains, and just about anything he could find that "emits showers of sparks" and "shoots flaming balls".

We piled Bill's kids in the car with us, and drove to Socorro, New Mexico to spend the night. The next night found us in Las Vegas, Nevada. We took the kids to see a family oriented magic show (very entertaining!), and we toured some of the larger, themed hotels. We took them out to tour Hoover Dam, where the temperature was 126 degrees! It was oppressive, to say the least.

We also found out why I had such difficulty finding a hotel room in Vegas that weekend -- it was July 7, 2007...or 7-7-7. If you believe in such things, many hoped it to be a lucky day for gambling and spend the weekend in Vegas to win their fortunes. I had a net win of $17. So, you can see that I am not a very big gambler! Home to CA on Sunday, and then we will have the kids until the 26th of July. Tomrrow we're off to Disney's California Adventure Park, and next week, 3 days at Disneyland. I am tired already.

Hi Janice!

Ray would have loved spending the 4th of July with Mike in Texas! As would Charles, I'm sure!

Feel free to come visit us any time at Organized Chaos.

Can't wait to read more...

Janice - I think this is a great idea!

2 of my brothers and I, with mom met at Bill's place in Mentone Beach (Redlands) for the July 4th celebration. Bill spent several $100's on fireworks that we couldn't set off. The "Fire Department" came by 3 times!!! The threat of a $1,000 fine stopped Bill and we simply watched the fireworks Redlands set off, from his front yard.

My cousin Veronica was married on 7-7-7 in San Francisco. It was a beautiful, wonderful, well planned out garden wedding. My brother John did the honors with a special 1 day license!

Talk to you soon! Mary
